Monday 17 September 2018 - Dunfermline Delivers wins Third Gold at Keep Scotland Beautiful Awards

Thursday, 13 December 2018

For the third year running, Dunfermline Delivers has won Gold at the Keep Scotland Beautiful Awards. Dunfermline Delivers also picked up Best BID in Scotland for the second time. BID Manager, Lisa Edwards and Carly Trotter from Dunfermline Delivers collected the awards at the ceremony in Haddington on Thursday 6 September.

The BID company has won the awards for their work on improving the town centre environment.  This includes the work of Dunfermline Delivers clean-up squads which regularly clear and enhance overgrown or neglected areas of the town centre. The floral displays in the town centre – which include the hanging baskets and the containers – both of which are provided in partnership with Lady Helen Nurseries – were also key to winning the award.

The BID company mobilizes teams of local people which include Police Scotland Youth Volunteers, Home Start volunteers, local shop and business owners, as part of the Business in the Community initiative. Recent clean up projects include the area next to Home Start and the Bruce Street Hall; the space behind Velocity, near the Gillespie Centre; and Music Hall Lane which introduced peacock-themed directional signage to the High Street.

Lisa Edwards said: “The judging process is rigorous – they visit every entrant for up to a three hour walk around the town centre and a lot of work is done throughout the year leading up to judging. The floral displays are a very important way of enhancing the town centre. Both Carly and I get our hands dirty during the town centre clean-ups but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of the BID businesses, Fife Council and all our volunteers. Our whole community works together and can quite rightly be proud of what we have achieved.”

More success was earned at the Awards by Dunfermline Green Space Forum, of which Dunfermline Delivers is a partner. They won a Silver Guild Award for their Small City submission to Keep Scotland Beautiful and a Silver Guild for their Beautiful Fife submission on the wider Dunfermline area, and, for both the parks which bookend Dunfermline.

Councillor Helen Law, convenor of the Dunfermline Area Committee said: “I was really proud to be at the award ceremony in Haddington.  Well done to Lisa and the team at Dunfermline Delivers for not only gaining the gold award but for also winning the Best Bid in Scotland. The Green Space Forum is a relatively new group that covers wider Dunfermline so this is an impressive achievement for them, building on the work of Dunfermline in Bloom.”

Beautiful Scotland recognises the efforts of local authorities, communities and businesses which work tirelessly to improve their local cities, towns and villages.
