Dunfermline Christmas Light Switch On: Saturday 17 November

Thursday, 13 December 2018

Dunfermline Delivers is delighted to announced that Dunfermline-born football star Caroline Weir, a Scotland Squad regular and midfielder for Manchester City, will switch on this year’s Christmas lights.  On Saturday 17 November the huge crowd will also be wowed by talented singer Steve McCrorie, the Scottish firefighter who won TV Talent show, The Voice in 2015.

The family entertainment kicks off with the Rotary Club Santa Dash at 1pm while Dave and Vanessa from Kingdom FM are playing the community stage at the Glen Gates from 2.30pm.  The Kingsgate Shopping Centre is hosting a Christmas market.

The Christmas Parade, which starts at 4.30 from outside Marks & Spencer, and travels down towards the Glen Gates, includes the likes of Knockhill Super Cars, Santa’s Sleigh, Dunfermline’s Pipe Band and a variety of community groups.

Steve McCrorie will be entertaining the crowds following the light switch on at 5pm. When Steve won The Voice he had all four judges turn around before the Scot chose Ricky Wilson from Kaiser Chiefs as his mentor.

Chris Foote, Events Manager with Dunfermline Delivers: “We’re really lucky that Caroline is travelling from Manchester to switch on the Christmas lights. A Saturday off during a busy football season is rare. She’s flying the flag for Dunfermline - representing Scotland at the World Cup in France as well as playing for one of the top teams in the English premier league.”

Councillor Helen Law, Chair of Dunfermline Area Committee said: “The Christmas Light Switch On always attracts big crowds into the town centre and it’s brilliant to see families and the community coming out to enjoy events like the Christmas parade.”

In September this year Caroline Weir helped Scotland create history after the national side qualified for their first-ever World Cup finals. Before signing for Manchester City in June 2018 she was at Liverpool where she won Liverpool Player of the Year in 2016. That year also saw her win Vauxhall Player of the Year 2016. Before Liverpool Weir was at Arsenal where she helped them win the 2014 FA Women’s Cup.
